Case Studies

Unique, diverse, flexible, and our clients

The following case studies* provide overviews of some of our recent projects and showcase a ‘who, what, why and outcome’ for some truly challenging projects for some of the world’s most demanding organisations.

Ministry of Defence

Pete Holland (Government Business Development Manager) and Jon Price (Technical Specialist) discuss Color Confidence's on-going work with the Ministry of Defence.

What do we do with the MoD?
"Our work with the MoD is fundamentally the provision of a total imaging solution with full integration of all the components that gives the Military and Civilian Photographer all the tools to do his 'day job'. This involves kitting them out with differing elements of photographic related equipment. We supply the tools, installation and service to provide a fully reliable and robust working solution from capture to output."

What does a 'typical' MoD service involve?
"No two days are the same, but it's crucial we follow the same processes to ensure we deliver what we are contracted to provide.
Typically, we will always liaise with the end-user to work out how to best meet their requirements and agree a timescale or schedule before any work takes place. Schedules are worked around the end-user's specifications, giving us the necessary time to prepare for roll-out. This will often involve a pre-site visit to make all the required preparations.
We will then work in close cooperation with Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) to make sure what we provide is the most effective solution.
We can then go about installing the new equipment in close liaison with the client. What you get is a complete end-to-end service; from pre-installation meetings and planning, to post-installation support and technical advice."

What challenges do you face?
There are three main challenges we are confronted with; the first is actually winning the contract! The second is ensuring we deliver on-time and the third is integrating the different components and brands that make up the contract. "This integration is a big responsibility for us. We have to ensure all the components which are often made by different manufacturers fit seamlessly together.

How do you overcome the challenges?
"Overcoming the challenges involves both teamwork between us and the client and a great deal of effort and hard-work to deliver on-time. This is where our pre-planning and liaison becomes essential, as it gives us a detailed framework to work around during the contract period.
The integration challenge is solved through years of industry experience and expertise. We have the technical ability and project management know-how to ensure installations run smoothly and all elements of equipment work together. This is essential when working within this type of environment."

Marson Fabrics

Color Confidence (CC): What is Marson fabrics business?
Marson Fabrics (MF): Marson Fabrics designs, re-colours and sells printed, plain and woven fabric to the high street. .

CC: What service have you purchased from Color Confidence?
MF: We purchased a colour management package from Color Confidence. We were given full training on how to profile our Epson Printers and calibrate our computer screens so that the colour we saw on our screen matched the colour that printed out and if we were to print the same design six months later the colour would remain the same.

CC: When was it implemented?
MF: We implemented this change in 2006.

CC: How is it used, and by whom?
MF: All the designers use colour management everyday in the studio. It is paramount that our colour stays exactly the same day after day. It means that we can print out a colourway today and then print it out six months later and the colour would remain the same.

CC: Why is colour important to your business?
MF: Colour is extremely important to our business. It sells our designs so we have to make sure it is right. We have to match to customer palettes and the mills have to match to our cads so it is crucial that the colour is correct.

CC: How did you deal with colour management previously?
MF: We didn¹t have a colour management system before. We printed our work to the photocopiers which were always inconsistent. Even if we were to print out the same colour a few minutes later it would have changed. Quite often we would have to re-match the colour for the customer because the colour no longer matched the swatch. This meant we had to file many copies making our jobs difficult and time consuming.

CC: What drove the change and new implementation?
MF: We purchased a new colour program in which we can re-colour our designs. This system works alongside with our colour management. We needed this consistency. It has made our use of time management much more effective and we can rely on a system that works.

CC: What are the main benefits you expected to see?
MF: We wanted to see that we would have consistent colour throughout our studio.
If I printed a design today my colleague would be able to print the same design a year later and we would be confident knowing that the colour would remain the same.

CC: How has improved colour control helped your business?
MF: We have been able to use our time much more effectively and our paper wastage has dramatically dropped.

CC: What factors drove you to work with Color Confidence?
MF: A much needed modern way of managing colour which therefore has helped us to use our time much more efficiently.
