6 Tips for Healthier Eyes from Dr. Gannon of the Low Vision Institute

Published: Tuesday 26th September 2017

Categories: Lighting

Dr. Marc Gannon OD, FAAO has been working to help people improve their vision for over 40 years. Dr. Gannon gives us 6 simple tips to help keep your eyes healthy throughout your life.

1. Relax Your Brain

"The main reason we blink is to rest the brain. A lot of people think that we're blinking to try to spread tears across our eyes to maintain lubrication but we really blink to give the brain a rest. Even better is if you close your eyes for 30 to 60 seconds every 15 to 20 minutes to give the brain a little longer to rest."

2. Use an OttLite

"It's the best of all the lamps available. The consistency of quality is good while the consistency of the wavelength and proper levels of illumination gives us good resolution. And it's excellent with contrast. These are things that we look for in improving a patient's vision and making them the most functional."

Here are some quick study tips for all the hardworking students back to university this autumn!

1. Get the big picture!

In our digital world, it's hard to get a clear view of how all your due dates overlap. Once you get the schedule for each class, asign each a colour and fill out key dates on a planner on your wall. You'll see where the rough spots are and can plan a way to smooth them out.

2. Cancel out distractions

Distractions can be parents, flatmates, siblings, the sound of fun you're not having. Noise cancelling headphones are a great way of shutting out the world AND letting other people know to leave you alone so you can focus.

3. Light it Right

PANTONE Release 'Love Symbol #2' in Honour of Prince

Published: Thursday 14th September 2017

Categories: Pantone

PANTONE, the world’s experts in professional colour guides, have recently announced the creation of “Love Symbol #2”, a distinctive blue based purple hue inspired by international pop icon, Prince.

The purple shade was inspired by Prince’s custom-made Yamaha purple piano which was originally scheduled to go on tour with him before his unfortunate passing at the age of 57 last year. Award-winning LED lighting manufacturer, Rotolight have announced the launch of NEO 2 - an industry-first, all-in-one High-Speed Sync (HSS) Flash and continuous on-camera LED light for portrait photographers and videographers on the go.

Unlike a traditional on-camera flash, NEO 2 has no recycle time, which ensures users never miss a shot, making it the perfect choice for today’s modern high-frame-rate-capable cameras.

NEO 2 provides the ‘shoot what you see’ benefits of continuous light, and the flexibility of HSS flash (1/8000th sec.) with 500% flash output, whenever users need more power or to freeze action. HSS also enables users to shoot with wider apertures to create beautiful separation between subject and backgrounds.

Rotolight have collaborated with Elinchrom to integrate its ‘Skyport’ 2.4Ghz HSS wireless flash receiver into NEO 2, eliminating the need to purchase a standalone flash receiver, whilst providi...
